One of the world’s greatest engineering feats was the construction of the Panama Canal. Built between 1904 and 1914 the Panama Canal is still considered one of the world’s most impressive engineering projects. Workers excavated over 240 million cubic yards of earth of rock and dirt, finding a way to reduce the toll of the tropical diseases that killed 20,000 in the French effort to build a canal. Over the last century the Panama Canal has provided passage to more than 800,000 boats.
